“Inside Out”

Reaching our full potential

I was standing by a concrete wall, thinking about getting older and that one day I would be leaving this earth. As I glanced toward the ground, I saw a small blueish white flower it was about five inches tall and all alone. As I looked at it I said, “I will miss that.” Then God spoke in my spirit and said, “That little flower will be ten times taller and ten times more beautiful in heaven”. As I thought about that, I could just see fields and fields of head high flowers exactly like that little flower.

When I was a little boy I knew in my heart what I wanted to be when I grew up. I didn’t put it there, it was just there. I wanted to be a preacher.

My mother always told me when I took my socks off to turn them right side out, but while always in a hurry, I would pull them off and leave them outside in. She would wash them that way. When I would put them on, I had to put the toe end over my toes and roll them up to get the right side out.

My wife, Charlie my brother and I went to a gathering of famous Dobro players last month. The man that they were honoring told the story of his life. As a boy he had no friends, was introverted and lonely. One day he heard a Dobro being played and loved it, then he started to learn how to play one. He is now seventy two years old. He said “God saved my life giving me an instrument to meet friends with”. He is now a well-known Dobro player known all over the world. God turned him inside out.

We are all born with the wrong side out, because of the rebellion against God in the Garden of Eden, where the flowers were ten times taller and ten times more beautiful. The man we talked about above was just an old sock with threads showing until the inner potential God had placed in him turned out, ten times taller and ten times more beautiful.

When man is in his rebellion, everything of importance only grows five inches tall. When God takes His rightful place in us, the potential is ten times greater.

We were watching a movie on T.V., it was a true story on the show “Death Valley Days”. The story was about Sequoia, the Cherokee Indian that developed a written alphabet for the Indian language. He worked on it for some ten years. When it was complete, he was honored and given a gold medallion as a reward, in remembrance of the man that had made his people known. They could now record their history for future generations, as the white man did. He said that Jesus taught him how to do it, thus turning his full potential from the inside out.

When my brother Charlie was a young boy, he wanted to invent something and get it patented. That was placed inside him before birth. He didn’t put it there. In his seventies that came true. He invented a Dobro capo that has changed the sound of the Dobro player’s future forever. The tone and sustain is ten times greater than any that has ever been. He was honored at the Dobro gathering we talked about above. The Dobro world and Charlie will never be the same again. Inside to out.

There are many, many full potentials in our lives. We should never, never settle for a five inch flower in our lives. God has many ten foot tall flowers in our future that we haven’t seen yet. Jesus taught us to pray, “Let thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”. Let the ten foot high flowers be, on earth as they are in Heaven. It is meant to be.

Let God turn your inside out and your special outside potential, into something bigger than life, ten times taller and ten times more beautiful.

All these men we talked about, all produced something big and left a mark in the earth forever. We all leave marks behind us. Let yours be bigger than life.

The gem stone Rodochrosite grows in pitch black darkness in solid rock. When it is blasted out into the sunlight it is a glorious sight to see. Bigger than life. Inside out.
